With all the lore we’re getting for Alternia the fact Karkat was never found out just gets fucking funnier

Like. We know because of marvus and ardata that trolls could hide their signs or switch them without too many people caring but. Not only did this half wit make a huge fucking deal over being hemoanonymous with his typing and throwing a tantraum whenever people asked, he put his actual goddamn sign on his clothes for anybody whose decently read to recognize as an illegal blood color

Some midblood, squinting at the short motherfucker whose been throwing a tantrum in the Troll Barnes and Noble over their return policy for the past fourty five minutes: is that a fucking limeblood???

Hermit crab

The Cancer sign is not an actual part of the in-universe troll signs library, lime or otherwise. It’s the sign of those who have no sign, in honour of the first redblood. It’s just put in the EZ to fit the pattern. The range of troll signs is so huge that no troll could possibly remember them all; there are billions of trolls and Vriska said it’s insanely rare to find a repeat, to the point she was surprised to find there was a troll with her sign hundreds of years ago.

But I mean just think, Karkat’s sign is the sign of the signless. Basically its basically like he is wearing some jewish symbol in a nazi place. Sure its widely forgotten, but when you are wearing it on your chest for EVERYONE to see, you can easily bump into some history obsessed highblood who is like “wait a second thats the signless’s symbol.”

All record of the Signless was purged from history books, and knowing what the sign means is grounds for culling along with the signless one; anyone who recognised it, which even Karkat himself doesn’t, would keep their mouths shut.

Thats… quite an inefficent law.

Troll1:“||ey there is an illegal sign if we see it, we have to cull the troll wearing it.”

Troll2: “Alnight ₩hat does it look like?”

Troll1: “no one knows. It is illegal to know it.”

Troll2: “so…. you mear that it CAN be youn sigr ard you just dort kno₩ it?”

Troll1:“I….I 0ont… un0erstan0 w||ere t||is is going… enoug|| talk.”

They don’t tell them “there is an illegal sign but you can’t know what it is”, they say “kill anyone showing nonstandard hemological attributes”, i.e. bleeding a nonstandard colour. They don’t need to say anything about the signs because a) no troll could remember them all (see “billions”) and b) in Alternia it’s only a matter of time until someone is bleeding or crying and showing their actual colour. Alternia isn’t made for efficiency, it’s made for producing SGrub players who a) can fight and b) don’t miss their horrible society.

Not to get int discourse because I don’t care but. There aren’t billions of signs. There’s 288. Hussie has a tract record of retconning information from the comic, like how Calliope said there were gendered god tiers and later he said that wasn’t true. We have an official homestuck zodiac now. It might be strange to see someone in the same town as you with the same sign but it’s not impossible

Yes, we have a SAMPLE of that zodiac. Hussie established already that it’s vanishingly rare to have repeats. The Extended Zodiac is just a sample that gives you an idea of what the characters we’re actually going to meet are like and gives Hussie more merchandise to sell. The canon fantrolls seen in the comic have signs that are not on the EZ, just for starters. Trolls live in cities with far, far more than three hundred people in them, and if there were fewer than three hundred signs Vriska would have seen nothing special about finding Mindfang’s diary and ignored it.

no. the fantrolls we saw in the comic had nonstandard signs because the official list had not been made yet. this is all of them. hussie changes the lore all the time, its like meeting someone with the same birthday as you. rare, but not impossible
