Hey, older fandom peeps, remember when faniction.net shot itself in the foot by purging all explicit work and from the ashes ao3 was born?
Guess history really does repeat itself huh?
For whose who don’t don’t, FFN used to be the epicenter of all fanfiction. Most young users though might barely know it because y’all only use AO3. And you use AO3 for a reason.
FFN was around for a while and, for its time, was recolutionary. It allowed all our documents to be put into one place. You could comment and PM.
And then, somewhere down the line, they decided to censor adult creators and just like that, AO3 was born.
Look at FFN one day this week. Just go to the website and stare at it a moment. It’s a dinosaur. It hasn’t been updated in years. The graphics are outdated, the setup is a mess, and the ads are (often) pornographic which… lol…. so much for that censor you guys.
AO3 has the backings and the support to continue to update and help creators succeed.
Tumblr needs to learn from past mistakes. Because one day soon there’ll be something else we’ll use instead of Tumblr that supports creators. And Tumblr will be left outdated and forgotten.
