I’m reading “How to Stop a School Shooting” because I found it on Kindle Unlimited and thought it was gonna be a nonfiction book about gun laws, but then I found out it was a fiction book about showing empathy to victims of abuse. I was like, hmm okay I GUESS, I’d hoped it was something different but it’s a short read so why not.

Then as I read I found out it was a fiction about FALLING IN LOVE with a school shooter and I was like, what the FUCK and I turned to the cover and there it was in small text: “How to Stop a School Shooting: A Love Story”

In the immortal words of historian Don Markstein: “[This is] an insult to practically everybody with any point of view at all.”

TIL: A Harvard professor experimented on 22 unwitting students, assaulting their belief systems to see what damage could be caused. One of them became the Unabomber.

The way this went was: each student was asked to write an essay describing their “personal philosophy”, essentially their worldview. These essays were then given to experienced prosecution attorneys and FBI interrogators. The students were placed in a room with these people, without being told who they were, and instructed to have a conversation about their essay. Except the task given to the lawyers and interrogators was to take the student’s “personal philosophy” apart piece by meticulous piece.

This experiment was part of MK Ultra and was an exercise in destroying personalities. They were testing out and refining methods of breaking spies on unwitting college students.

Ted Kaczynski was 17 when he was subjected to this experiment. His code name in the documentation? “Lawful”

they did in-depth interviews with 137 scientists and about 35% of them mentioned Dawkins unprompted, and about 80% of those were apparently just desperate to tell someone how much they hate him

one of my favorite lotr facts is that gondorians speak sindarin as a first language and yet when faramir was talking to frodo and sam about cirith ungol he was like “we don’t know what’s in there.” like faramir. cirith ungol is sindarin for “pass of the spider.” do the math
