the new batch of love for john mulaney here on tumblr has got me thinking how critical costume design is once again. john mulaney is a good comedian, but so much of his power comes from how his humor plays off how he’s dressed. we don’t expect a man dressed like a 1960s news announcer, all clean scrubbed and tight-wound professional, to describe in minute detail the visit where a doctor shoved a hand up his ass. imagine any iconic john mulaney set but given in jeans and a t-shirt, and is it as funny? i don’t think so. his humor spreads like wildfire on this website because the image of a man in a buttoned-up shirt and a tie and slicked back hair with fairly narrow lapels on his three-piece suit is fucking hysterical when paired with “years later I’d be in college about to go down on some
rockin’ twink and i’d be like what would leonard bernstein do”
well I do recall a comedian telling about how he accidentally joined the russian mafia on a school trip in college, and this was made more believable by the fact that he was shirtless with a beer belly while telling this story
i had a dream i went to nintendo and they revealed to me that all this time the real pokemon designer was this Russian guy named Vladimir Pokemondesigner and i asked him why he named jigglypuff that and he said “is puff. is jiggly. are you a jokester?” and crushed my head like an empty soda can
I was on a Russian server last week and this Heavy on my team got in a fight with our team sniper in spawn over his poor headshotting skills, and the Heavy began yelling ‘мудак’ over mic which is Russian for asshole.
well the team medic ran over and said in a thick British accent ‘you called?’ over mic which led everyone to discover the medic mistook the Russian word for asshole, мудак(pronounced mood-ak), as the heavy calling for him.
also because Russians are assholes everyone, even on the blu team, began yelling МУДАК МУДАК МУДАК over and over into the mic as they laughed their ass off because that one British medic responded to the word asshole as if it were his name.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him they weren’t just mic spamming him when he got confused as to why literally everyone was yelling medic at him
