Hello, hello! Rush here! How you doing? Good? Good!
Now, as some of you may know, I’ve got a brand new show coming up, my first full scale original musical called Albireo!
We opens in a week and a half, super super exciting! So to get you as tickled as I am, I thought I’d give you all a closer look! So, let’s dive right in!
In case you missed my original post: Albireo tells the story of a pair of brothers who happen to be half human and half siren – Sirens as in those in mythology, you know, the sorts that sat on rocks, singing sailors to their doom – Because of this, their fabled hypnotic powers via song kick in when they sing together in harmony!
Separated for some time, the show opens when the older one, Wriker, barges back into his little brother, Charon’s, life on the night of a crucial dinner party (of course). Mayhem, madness and music ensue – naturally – as the evening becomes a real mess of comedy, suspense, absurdity, drama, and good old fashioned fun, with some wrenches and twists tossed in for good measure!
It’s all a semi-diegetic turnabout that answers the question: Hey Musicals, What if there was a reason for all the singing?
Meet Charon Chambers! Played by the dazzling Colton Fyfe, Chambers is the epitome of the neurotic host. A ball of nerves and genuine worryboi ™, Chambers hardly helps himself by working to hide the fact he’s a half a hypnotic mythical creature.
Though silence is safety, it can get very loud in one’s head when there’s music in one’s blood. (Help him.)
But he does his best to make light of things, of course. (Help this man.)
Yes, he makes the best of it,
(Dear god help this man.) If not for himself, then for his goddaughter (See labelled below)
Holly (see labelled above), played by the wonderful Kapila Rego, is someone you’ll only know for a day but if anything were to happen to her you’d kill everyone in that room and then yourself.
Look at that absolute cutie! Spirit lifting, spunky and the veritable voice of all reason, Holly’s not so bad for a regular old human.
Pretty upbeat for a girl who’s parents were taken by a twister.
Holly is Chambers’ everything, and he’ll do almost anything to keep her safe, even hide from his true nature, because sometimes the family you find’s the family you need.
So if you’re in the Vancouver area November 21st-24th, come on down to the Red Gate Revue Stage and check out the sights and sounds of Albireo! Or, you know, get hype for a video and in the meantime, keep your eye out for further updates!
